Saudis fail to issue anti-Iran statement at OIC

TEHRAN, Jul. 14 (MNA) – The 44th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) was held in the Cote d’Ivoire capital, Abidjan on 10-11 July 2017 but the forum did not wrap up a final statement.

The 44th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) was held, under the theme: “The Role of Youth, Peace and Development in a World in Solidarity,” in the Cote d’Ivoire capital, Abidjan, on 10-11 July 2017. The 44th CFM finished with no final statement as the member states did not accord on the articles of a statement.

During the forum, foreign ministers and heads of delegations of the member states expressed their latest views about the regional developments, war on terrorism and extremism, and the role of the youth in developing and progressing Islamic societies.

“Islamic countries know that the Riyadh statement is in violation of the soul and principles of the organization, asserted the director general for political and international security affairs at Iran's Foreign Ministry, Gholamhossein Dehghani, who headed the Iranian delegation to the forum, “the charter of the organization emphasizes that the member states try to increase solidarity and unity between Muslim countries to solve the challenges ahead of the Islamic Ummah.”

“It is of great sorrow that one of the member states of the organization is hosting a power which stimulates the members to disrupt the unity of the Islamic community,” articulated the Iranian diplomat. “Plotting against the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iranians was the main agenda of the US and Saudi Arabia in that meeting.”

“The Riyadh meeting and statement should never be welcomed by Islamic countries as the heads of that power have repeatedly proved, in words and in actions, their animosity and hostility toward the rights of the people of Palestine,” highlighted Dehghani, “something which is the main cause of forming the organization.”

“The new US president, in stark contrast with his predecessors, who proposed the two-state solution for resolving the issue of Palestine, is not even willing to accept the basic rights of the Palestinians,” affirmed the Iranian diplomat. “He (the new US president) is blatantly and explicitly supporting the Zionist regime and vows to relocate US embassy to the Holy Quds.”

He said that Saudi Arabia had proposed the exact statement of Riyadh as the final statement of the Abidjan forum which was strongly opposed by Iran and some other member states.
